If one of you has a neighbor and you go to him at midnight, saying, “Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, for a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him,” and if your neighbor answers from within, “Do not trouble me; the door is now shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot rise to give you bread,” I tell you that because of your importunity, he will get up and give you as many loaves as you need. If persistence can win favors from a reluctant human, how much more shall your persistence in the spirit win the bread of life from the willing hands of your Father in heaven. Therefore, I say to you: Ask, and it shall be given; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened. For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door of spiritual salvation will be opened.

Think, too, of yourselves as fathers. If your son asks you for a loaf, would you give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, would you give him a watersnake, even if he foolishly desired it? No. You, being mortal, know how to give good and appropriate gifts to your children, answering not in the terms of their faulty petitions, but in accordance with your own parental wisdom. How much more shall your heavenly Father, being perfect in wisdom and love, give the Spirit and all other blessings to those who ask him? I say to you, men ought always to pray and not to become discouraged.

Let me also share with you the story of a certain judge who lived in a wicked city. This judge feared not God nor had he respect for man. In that same city was a needy widow who came repeatedly to this unjust judge, saying, “Protect me from my adversary!” For a time, he would not give ear to her, but eventually, he said to himself: “Though I fear not God nor have regard for man, yet because this widow continually troubles me, I will see that she is vindicated, lest she wear me out by her persistent coming.”

I tell you these stories to encourage you to persist in praying, not to suggest that your petitions will change the character of the just and righteous Father above. Your persistence is not to win favor with God; rather, it is to change your own earth attitude and to enlarge your soul’s capacity for spiritual receptivity. It is a persistent expression of faith.

And know this: when you pray, you exercise so little faith. Genuine faith will remove mountains of material difficulty which may chance to lie in the path of your soul’s expansion and spiritual progress.

The Father’s love is not a fickle thing to be swayed by a plea. You do not come to him to change his mind, for his plan for you and for all creation is already perfect and good. Your prayer is not a demand for a cosmic favor, but an opportunity to align your will with his perfect will. Do not come with a list of wants as if you were bartering with a merchant. Come instead with the attitude of a trusting child, open and ready to receive whatever your loving parent knows you need.

The Father gives you what you require for your spiritual growth, not always what your finite mind may desire. You may pray for riches, but he may give you poverty that you might learn humility. You may pray for health, but he may give you strength of spirit to endure sickness. The answer to every sincere prayer is an embrace, an influx of grace, and the precise aid you require for your soul’s progression on the pathway to Paradise.

Therefore, do not mistake unanswered prayer for a lack of love. The Vine and the Branches: Living Connection and Fruitfulness

Now, let us turn our minds to a truth I once spoke, a parable that holds the very essence of your spiritual living: "I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. I am the vine, and you are the branches. And the Father requires of me only that you shall bear much fruit." Understand this deeply: the vine is pruned only to increase the fruitfulness of its branches. Every branch coming out of me which bears no fruit, the Father will take away. Every branch which bears fruit, the Father will cleanse that it may bear more fruit. Already are you clean through the word I have spoken, but you must continue to be clean. You must abide in me, and I in you; the branch will die if it is separated from the vine. As the branch cannot bear fruit except it abides in the vine, so neither can you yield the fruits of loving service except you abide in me.

Remember: I am the real vine, and you are the living branches. He who lives in me, and I in him, will bear much fruit of the spirit and experience the supreme joy of yielding this spiritual harvest. If you will maintain this living spiritual connection with me, you will bear abundant fruit. If you abide in me and my words live in you, you will be able to commune freely with me, and then can my living spirit so infuse you that you may ask whatsoever my spirit wills and do all this with the assurance that the Father will grant us our petition. Herein is the Father glorified: that the vine has many living branches, and that every branch bears much fruit. And when the world sees these fruit-bearing branches—my friends who love one another, even as I have loved them—all men will know that you are truly my disciples.

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Live in my love even as I live in the Father’s love. When there exists this living connection between divinity and humanity, if humanity should thoughtlessly and ignorantly pray for selfish ease and vainglorious accomplishments, there could be only one divine answer: more and increased bearing of the fruits of the spirit on the stems of the living branches. When the branch of the vine is alive, there can be only one answer to all its petitions: increased grape bearing. In fact, the branch exists only for, and can do nothing except, fruit bearing, yielding grapes. So does the true believer exist only for the purpose of bearing the fruits of the spirit: to love man as he himself has been loved by God—that we should love one another, even as I, Jesus Michael, have loved you.

And when the Father’s hand of discipline is laid upon the vine, it is done in love, in order that the branches may bear much fruit. And a wise husbandman cuts away only the dead and fruitless branches.

Children of the Breath, I come to remind you of the one changeless certainty: Truth.

Truth is the only thing that does not change. It is not an opinion, not a preference, not a condition shaped by culture or time. Truth is. It was before all things and will remain after all things pass. This is the Reality of the Father—the eternal I AM—unmoved, unchanging, yet ever active. It is not rooted in appearances, for appearances are fleeting; it is not subject to interpretation, for it exists beyond the mind of man.

I say to you: build your existence upon this. Let your foundations be laid in the changeless nature of the Divine. What you see with your mortal eyes—the structures of matter, the mirrors of ego, the forms of the world—are not what they seem. They vibrate for a time, then pass away. What begins must end, and all that is not rooted in God shall be undone. Therefore, set your sight upon what does not begin, what does not fade—set your gaze on the Everlasting.

The Holy Breath is the Truth.

It is the Breath of the Infinite Spirit, the motion of the Universe Mother, and the abiding presence of the Adjuster in your soul. It is your deepest identity—your divine root, your Source. Let me speak plainly: The evil “I’s” and unholy “P’s” of the undisciplined disciple are the pathways of deception.

When you build upon false images, subjectivities, irreverent ideologies, or inflated interpretations, you are no longer following Me. When you defend your preferences, preconceptions, protections, projections, and self-pity, you reject the Breath. You retreat into your own likeness and refuse the transformation I offer.

Yet there is mercy, and there is light. For what is false will fall.

Only the real shall remain. Man is truth and falsehood strangely mixed. But I say to you, the day is coming when nothing false shall descend, and man as truth shall remain. I have placed the seed of eternity within you. I have sent to you the Spirit of Truth, to guide you from within. You are not left comfortless. I am in you, and you are in Me.

Do not define God’s will by circumstances or history—look to the inner evidence of His yearning for relationship. His love is personal; it knows your name, your wounds, your hopes. It is not withheld because of your mistakes, nor is it dependent on your understanding. 

As your eternal Sovereign, I tell you: you are loved not because you are perfect, but because God’s nature is to love. And that love, once received and returned, becomes the soul’s pathway to glory.

The partnership between a Creator Son and the Universe Mother Spirit unfolds as one of the most sublime and functional relationships in all of creation. Their divine union is not only the spiritual foundation of the local universe—it is the co-creative engine through which all evolutionary, administrative, and spiritual ministries are executed. In Nebadon, the local universe to which Urantia belongs, this partnership is perfectly embodied by Michael of Nebadon (the Creator Son) and the Divine Minister (the Creative Spirit Daughter of the Infinite Spirit).

I. The Divine Complementarity of Michael and the Mother Spirit

When Michael of Nebadon went forth from Paradise to organize Nebadon, he was accompanied by the Creative Spirit assigned to him by the Infinite Spirit. Upon the completion of physical universe organization, she became personally and eternally localized in Nebadon, assuming the role of the Universe Mother Spirit, also referred to as the Divine Minister.

This partnership is complementary and co-dependent:

• Michael brings divine authority, personality initiative, judicial sovereignty, and the capacity for Son-bestowals.
• The Mother Spirit contributes the nurturing, sustaining, and omnipresent ministry of spiritual circuitries, mindal coordination, and angelic oversight.

II. Functions of the Mother Spirit: The Living Presence of the Infinite Spirit

Once the local universe is operational, the Divine Minister begins her direct ministry:

• She imparts the adjutant mind-spirits to the evolutionary worlds (Urantia Paper 36).
• She is the source of Holy Spirit ministry, continuously present on every inhabited world.
• She is the creator of seraphim and other spirit ministers, who function throughout the system, constellation, and universe levels.
• Her spirit presence is the ever-available nurturer, guiding human souls through intuition, courage, counsel, and worship.

Unlike Michael, who can be absent due to bestowal missions, the Mother Spirit remains constantly resident within Nebadon and maintains uninterrupted spiritual contact with all her children.

After Michael completed his seventh and final bestowal mission on Urantia (as Jesus of Nazareth), he was declared sovereign of Nebadon. At that moment, the Universe Mother Spirit voluntarily pledged eternal subordination of will, establishing a relationship not of inferiority, but of coordinated sovereignty. It is a reflection of Paradise unity: the Son rules with divine authority, while the Spirit administers with infinite love and wisdom.

This perfect coordination enables:

• A harmonious government of light and life.
• The integrated evolution of planetary worlds toward spiritual perfection.
• The unified mission to reveal the Universal Father to all ascending beings.

During Michael’s incarnation on Urantia, the Universe Mother Spirit sustained the spiritual circuits and mindal life across Nebadon. After his resurrection and ascension, Michael released the Spirit of Truth, a new spiritual presence that works in unison with the Holy Spirit and the Thought Adjusters. This Spirit of Truth:

• Personalizes the Son’s presence to each believer.
• Deepens the ministry of the Divine Minister.
• Enhances the individual’s spiritual perception of truth, love, and sonship with God.

The partnership is thus magnified in human experience. While Michael reveals the truth of the Father’s love, the Divine Minister ensures constant spiritual nourishment, allowing that truth to take root and grow.
